Born in Hermosa Beach, California, Karen lived for many years in the San Francisco Bay area but now resides in Ashland, Oregon. She teaches English at Diablo Valley College, and although she has always been a writer, whether of poems or songs or even her opus memoir, A Late Stop in Queersville, she has only recently begun calling herself a writer, having completed two novels and several short stories not long ago. And maybe you saw her playing drums with the punk band Placenta at a dive bar in San Francisco in 2006. Thriving on creative pursuits, she has enjoyed being a teacher, mother, grandmother, musician, and songwriter as well. Her second language is Farsi, but she can also speak French and Italian when needed.
